WEEK 4 (17 APRIL 2023)
SEED TREATMENT AND PREPARATION

On the fourth week, my classmates and I started do seed treatment and preparation. First, we continue doing plowing manually which is using human energy before tractor came and help do plowing with the latest technology to save energy and time. Plowing is most important procedure to do in Agriculture to help new crop by getting enough nutrient and breaking the soil into small particles.

Soil became loose after plowing. 

 After done with land clearing and plowing, we moved to liming process.

Liming is a process to balancing pH for soil by using lime to avoid crop problems related to excessive acidity and improve fertility for optimum growth of crops.

Soil pH scales reading. 

To give an instance, this tool called soil meter to measure soil pH. 

Next, step is lining with objectives are to provide space to crop access their needs adequately. Other than that, is to achieve the most effective irrigation system and give each seedling the optimum growth space. 

Sir Zahid was briefing the task to our leader. 

We're using measure tape to mark the plot and divide by section for planting bed, drain and path between other class. It helps to do maintenance easier and drainage to flow the water. 





Meanwhile, other students fixed crop boundaries according to the size given.

 We also studied and discussed about which seed suitable and easy to manage for our project. Among the seeds of lettuce, long beans, cucumber and pak choi. My class decided to plant long beans and lettuce for our crop.

Before do pre-planting, seed need to be soak first and then we put seed inside seedling box. 

From left above, pak coi, cucumber and the black color is long bean seed and lettuce next to it. 

After done with seed germinate, we keep seedling box inside green house to avoid direct sun. 

Last week we've been informed to pay 2MYR and collect to buy first aid kit as a preparation if any injured occur during field work. 

The challenge that I faced and new experience was the moment my friend had panic attack on 11.30am that day. Suddenly she became weak, and a few people in a rush go get her. Her face turned red and then she started screaming, her hand was shivering also difficult to breath. At first my friend and I who know about her condition in a detail, decided to walk away because too crowd of people helping her but then I do not feel right about it. She type of person won't tell others anything about her condition even in a critical time and I'm right. My friend and I, go back to that place to inform and help to calm her down. After that my lecturer, Sir Zahid fetched us from farm to the clinic and send us to Kolej Tun Gemala. 

Things that I learned is gain knowledge regarding how to deal with that situation. I learned from Sir Zahid because he was so calm and have a nice word to say to my friend while I was only told her to istighfar. I think I'm the one who need to istighfar. 

For next task we are going to do without fasting anymore because Ramadhan come to the end! Well.. I do not know is good news or not..

WEEK 1 (24 MARCH 2023)

INTRODUCTION TO FPA100

Hi, assalamualaikum w.b.t dear readers. Welcome to my blog! Before we get start, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Syafiqah Sahira binti Saidi, usually people call me by my first name. I was born and lived in Klang, Selangor. Currently, I'm UITM student at Jasin, Melaka in Diploma Plantation in Management. I desired to share with you, about introduction to my subject that I have learned.

On the very first week, we have briefing for every subject include FPA100. For the other subjects, I went to class at Blok Kuliah but because of Ramadhan public holiday, my lecturer agreed to do online for this subject.

I woke up on 5.30 am for sahur, Fajr prayer and get ready for online class on 9am with lecturer Ts. Muhamad Zahid bin Muhamad. During online class, Sir Zahid introduced himself and explain to classroom about Course Lesson Plan and Assessment that we are going to do.

LESSON PLAN 

The challenge that I have to faced for attend online class is lack of internet speed. In the future, I will try to improve common problem that student have to face or go to cybercafe with high speed internet. Week 1 do not cost anything since I’m using my own smart phone. 

WEEK 2 (31 MARCH 2023)
ORGANIZATION, INTRODUCTION TO FARM TOOLS, LAND CLEARING AND LINING

On the second week, everything started getting serious and require more commitment compared to my experience when I was doing Pre Diploma Plantation and Agrotechnology in UiTM Jengka. I have to wake up early in the morning around 5am for sahur (pre-dawn meal) and get ready to attend rollcall on 6.30am. For attire, students have to be in all black, neat and tidy. Every students must have those items with themselves every field work lesson.

Bunch of DPIM students gathered at parking lot next to Blok Kuliah and sat in queue line for each class A-D. We had an ice breaking session with seniors and get to know with persons in charge during our fieldwork such as PE Saiful and Leader Haziq. Next, we also get to know students in position from G16 batch such as KG Jabrullah known as KG Jep and the assistant is PKG Liana.

For rollcall routine, PE will take attendance and do some physical warm up to make sure our body in good condition and remain great metabolism. For an example, warm up stretch and star jump because exercising can help student to be more fit for tough tasks even sun going up above the head. After that, students Part 1, 2 and 3 gathered at 'Agrotech' base to recite dua, read national pledge and sing 3 songs which is Negaraku, Wawasan Setia Warga UiTM and planters song.

Next, we moved to 1.5 acres field work site and had another briefing and introduction with Resources person in charge for field, FPA lecturers and our site.

The challenges for me is to wake up very early in the morning unlike my usual routine. I have to follow dress code rules, be punctual and discipline. In addition, they will check my attire, nails and socks' color and length. To avoid any problem, I have to obey and attend rollcall by the given time.

 

WEEK 3 (7 APRIL 2023)
LINING AND BED PREPARATION

On the third week, students have been notified to do land cleaning manually by using hoe. It took almost a week to do land clearing before get through lining and bed preparation. Due to manual task, each class have to go to field every day which is four to five times per week. Early in the morning from 6.30am until 8.30am and 4.50pm until 6.30pm. Every time we step on field, PE will be there together with students G16 as a monitor person to assist our activities and progress.

Here is some recap my activities from Monday until Saturday.

The challenge that I faced is to do tough job during Ramadhan and my energy was draining so fast. All of us work very hard even sun above our head with thirsty and hunger condition. PE keep reminds students to eat more protein and carbohydrates during sahur to avoid from get sick and faint at farm.
